Snjólaug Guðrún Árnadóttir

Daughter of a archdeacon
My grandmother on my father side was born in the city of Sauðárkrókur in northern part of Iceland on March 7th 1898. 1913 she moved to Garður in Álftanes with her parents Árni Björnsson archdeacon in Sauðárkrókur and Líney Sigurjónssdóttir. There my great grandfather was to become a minister. From there they moved to the city of Hafnarfjörður in 1928 were my great grandfather served as a minister and was part of the group who build The Church of Hafnarfjörður. My grandmother dedicated her life to the mistress role at home but she had 4 children to bring up. She also was an organist in the church in Garður for many years and was a soprano singer in several choirs during her life.

I and my grandmother
I remember my grandmother very well sitting with her in the kitchen on Austurgata 25 in Hafnarfjörður but she was always eager to make sure my stomach was not suffering. She was one of the most loving person that I have come across in my life and the moments with her, my grandfather and aunt Sigurlaug (my fathers sister) in the cemetery in Hafnarfjörður were they all rest side by side are of high quality to me. I often pass by there on my early morning or late evening walks.

My grandmother passed away on December 30th 1975.
